13 Mar Support Gender Studies
The Institute for Gender Studies, Faculty of Philosophy, University of St. Cyril and Methodius, is the single educational institution in the Republic of Macedonia at which a formal academic education and a bachelor’s degree in the field of gender problematic can be acquired.
Its opening caused great interest, to which our enrollment and student status proudly testify.
In the past seven years, besides the learning process, we were included in all the projects initiated and carried out by our professors, and also in the projects carried out with the partner organizations and institutions.
We became visible and recognizable in the public for our efforts for achieving gender equality.
After five years of successful functioning, the enrollment of new students is set on hold, and at the moment there are classes held only for the last two generations of students.
The future of the Institute is uncertain, because we do not have any information regarding the reactivation of the enrollment of new students.
That is why we, the graduates and students at the Institute of Gender Studies, activate this petition in order to re-activate the entry of new students for this academic year.
– The Republic of Macedonia is a signatory of many international documents which regulate/promote gender equality, and also, the efforts towards gender equality are translated into a series of documents – laws and strategies.
– The Institute for Gender Studies is delivering experts who will give a significant contribution in the implementation of the policies for gender equality.
– The Gender studies are raising awareness of the equality of all people, regardless their gender;
– The Gender studies are dedicated to achieving the equality of women and men in all areas of society (social life);
– The Gender studies are important for promoting the concept of equal opportunities and human rights;
– The Gender studies are dedicated to increasing the gender equality;
– The Gender studies are making efforts towards preventing the gender discrimination in Macedonian society
– The Gender studies are important for increasing the gender sensitivity in Macedonian society;
– The Gender studies act towards the elimination of the lack of gender sensitivity in higher education.
– The Gender studies are one of the most researched areas in the world, within the area of social science;
– The Gender studies are a key factor in decreasing the gender based violence.
