30 Oct Support from Serbia for the Macedonian LGBT community
Today, the Serbian LGBT community held a protest in fron of the Macedonian ambasy in Belgrade in support and solidarity with the LGBT persons in Macedonia who in the last few weeks were a target of a homophobic campaign.
The main supporters of the campaign, which turned into a direct media witch-hunt of the pro-government media against the LGBT community in Macedonia, were officials from the Government, including the Ministry of labor and social affairs and the Ministry of interior and different civil organizations such as the Union of the retired persons and the Association of the Social workers.
The LGBT activists were also a target of violence. The Macedonian media published the information in which it is said that, on 21-st of October, two persons attacked the president of LGBT United Macedonia on his way back home. Furthermore, eight hours after the Center for support of the LGBT persons was opened in the Old city Bazaar in Skopje, it was vandalized be three unknown masked persons.
With this protest, the LGBT activists gave a direct support of the struggle of the Macedonian LGBT community for their human rights.
