Skopje Pride Weekend 2024 | Staying With the Inconvenience
Poster: Hristina Ivanoska (drawing) & Igor Delov (graphic design)
🖍️ The drawing is the work of the Macedonian artist Hristina Ivanoska, originally created for this year’s edition of the festival, and inspired by the theme in focus. Ivanoska’s continued interest in working with text, through the construction of content and its visualization, inspires her to create her own typography. Calling it “Archetype Open Form” she united her interests in (un)care and forgetting. This drawing is part of the process to create and test visual solutions using typography. The choice of wooden crayons and palette arose from Ivanoska’s closeness to the queer community and recognition of queer qualities in her own artistic practice.
🖍️ The open form of Ivanoska’s typography resonates with the festival’s invitation to resist the idols of ready-made solutions, and the ethical imperative not to close known and unknown others in banal, easy, recognizable categories and frameworks nor to expect molded, defined, non-ambivalent, and boringly reliable dynamics and relations with others. Staying with the inconvenience (also in reading this drawing) we can create “transitional and transformative infrastructures for the extended meanwhile” (Berlant), as embodied experiments and practices of unlearning vertical hierarchies without pre-supposed solutions and categories, without firmly established or dreamed structures, without the cushions of phantasmatic security, and expectations of a harmonious and non-conflicting world with others.
