25 Nov А protest in front of the Macedonian embassy in Brussels
Two days ago, a group of Belgian organizations, including FYEG, Jong Groen, Ecolo J, Rainbowhouse, Belgian Pride, Arc en Ciel Walloon, DWARS, Déi jonk gréng and Cavaria, held a protest-pride in Brussels in front of Macedonian and Serbian Embassy to focus attention to the violations of LGBTIQ rights in the two countries.
This years Belgrade Pride was banned, after this ban a homophobic campaign against the rights of LGBTIQ was set up by the government of neighboring country Macedonia. Speeches by ministers (including the Prime Minister), religious communities (orthodox, catholic, Islamic…) flooded the media. This has led to an increase of violence against LGBTIQ’s and stoning of the LGBT support center. Due to the lack of support by the embassies working in Skopje and international awareness Balkan LGBTIQ’s are left to struggle a fight they can not win.
The organizers of the pride protest asked people to join them in front of the Macedonian embassy to demand respect and protection of human rights. From there on the march went to the Serbian embassy in order to express our support to the oppressed LGBTIQ’s in Macedonia and Serbia!
The action is a start up of European solidarity of the LGBTIQ movements that will be realized on the Belgian Pride in May.
