The discrimination and the intolerance toward the people with different sexual orientation must stop- this was the message of the Euro-ambasador Aivo Orav and the Dutch ambassador Marriet Schurman . The visited the center for the support of the LGBT community in Skopje, where they said that Macedonia as a candidate for admission in the EU must resolve the problems which these people face.
– In the past few weeks I circled the country presenting the report for development. I reminded that there are few important sentences connected to anti-discrimination. More clearly, based on this, there must not be any kind of discrimination within the country- said Aivo Orav, the EU ambassador in Macedonia.
– We urge the government and the citizens of Macedonia to help in the promotion of tolerance and social acceptance of people with different sexual orientation. According to the laws in the EU, the discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation is forbidden – added Schurman, ambassador of the Netherlands in Macedonia.
Both Orav and Schurman believe that the centar for support will help the society to accept and tolerate the people with different sexual orientation. Representatives from the Helsinki Committee for Human Rights say that the center is slowly reaching its goal.
– People begun to understand the role and the function of the center for support of LGBT community. It was not a coincidence that we have chosen the Old Turkish Bazaar which is a cradle of different cultures – said Uranija Pirovska from the Helsinki Committee.
The center which offers help to the marginalized groups of citizens was vandalized last week by an unknown perpotraitor. In the mainwhile, there weren’t any incidents since.
