15 Aug Mayor of Reykjavik drags up at gay pride to show support for Pussy Riot
With a week to go before the verdict in the Pussy Riot trial, the Mayor of Reykjavik Jon Gnarr has donned a pink dress and danced to the band’s music on a float at the city’s gay pride festival.
Musicians from the group are currently on trial for hooliganism charges inMoscowfollowing a performance at a cathedral in February – where they donned masks and sang lyrics criticising Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Madonna, who used her recent concerts inRussiato speak out against anti-gay legislation, is among several stars calling for the release of Pussy Riot.
Mayor Jon Gnarr, wearing a pink dress and a balaclava mask, danced on a truck with a banner displaying ‘FREE PUSSY RIOT’, to the sound of the band’s track ‘Clear the Cobblestones’.
Last week, Icelandinc actress and musician Bjork wrote in support of Pussy Riot, posting to Facebook: “The Russian authorities should let them go home to their families and children.
