-Opening of the Swedish LGBT exhibition ‘Article 1’ and ‘The Unstraight Museum’

-International two-day conference In/Visible: The Political and Sexual Regimes of the Archive

 

Article One is a touring LGBT exhibition from some of Sweden’s more prominent museums, with accounts of the history and contemporary life of LGBT-persons, initiated in Stockholm at Europride in the summer of 2008. After its tour on the Baltic Pride in Riga, Latvia, in Belgrade, and Sarajevo, we have the honor to present the exhibition in Skopje, at the Chifte Amam (National Gallery of Macedonia), 22.02 -15.03. 2012. The opening hour of the exhibition is 20.00h.

 

The exhibition is made up of several smaller exhibition parts, each produced by the different museums. Every part all tell a different story but with one common subject: LGBT history.

 

The participating museums are the Swedish Police Museum, the Swedish Army Museum, the Nobel Museum, the National Museum of Science and Technology, The National Museum of Sports and the National Historical Museum.

 

The Swedish exhibition is accompanied by a local, Macedonian, contribution comprising two parts: “The Sexuality of the Archive” and “Emotional Archive of the Unstraight Experiences in Macedonia”.

 

The exhibition is followed also by a two-day international on the subject of: “In/Visible: The Political and Sexual Regimes of the Archive”. The first conference day, 23.02., Thursday, will open discussion on the topic of “Museum and Human Rights. The Role and Responsibility of the Public Institutions of Today”, while the second part on, 25.02, Saturday, will open discussion on “The Queer Location of Culture: Nationalism, history and Sexuality”. The Conference will be held at the Chifte amam, 18.00-20.30h.

 

Local partners of the exhibition are: The Coalition ‘Sexual and Health Rights of Marginalized Communities’, the Institute ‘Euro-Balkan’, Chifte amam- The National Gallery of Macedonia, The Swedish embassy in Macedonia and the Swedish embassy in Belgrade.
